She’s ‘Doing It Again, Baby!’ – Girl in Red Concert Preview

She’s ‘Doing It Again, Baby!’

By Graham Boyle

…and it’s so good, she had to add a second night. After selling out her first D.C. date in a matter of days, Norwegian singer-songwriter Girl in Red added a second night at the Anthem, taking over The Wharf from April 20-21. The 25-year old will embark on the Doing It Again Tour on April 16 in Boston in support of her latest album, Doing It Again, Baby!, out everywhere on April 12.

Girl in Red is hot off of select dates of the little known musical offering called The Eras Tour, where she opened for the world’s biggest pop star. However, her new record has more rock influences than her previous soft-pop projects. Songs like “Phantom Pain”, the album’s title track, and “You Need Me Now” featuring Sabrina Carpenter are all heavier on guitar and loud vocals, a new sound for the artist that she achieves brilliantly. There are nods to the softer, yearning sounds of her previous work, like on “I’m Back”, but her sophomore sees Girl in Red push her universe of sound to new, colorful limits.

You may know Girl in Red from her catalog of WLW hits like “we fell in love in october”, many of them from her equally sapphic debut album if i could make it go quiet. Her unabashed queerness and incredible musical talent have turned her into a rock star; and she’s just getting started. Her interaction with the crowd, laid-back stage style, and authenticity have made audiences become enamored. So, if you listen to Girl in Red (wink wink) come out to The Anthem, Sunday April 21, for an electric performance, where California-based indie band Momma will open. Tickets are available here as well as in person at The Anthem box office at The Wharf.
