Bladee and ecco2k – Crest
By Noah Temple
Oftentimes I think about the good things to come out of Sweden like Ikea, Swedish Fish, and whatever else they make. But what stands out to me the most are Bladee and ecco2k. The two have been making music together since their childhood and still find new and innovative ways to change it up.
Crest is a collaborative album by Bladee and ecco2k that sees them leaning into a new, cleaner sound. The album marries both ecco2ks wispy, ethereal vocals and Bladees’ whiny, distorted sound while Drain Gang producer whitearmor creates a sound that matches the feeling of the album cover by using soft bells and sweet, synthy keyboard sounds that make the tracks feel like something out of Little Big Planet 2. Thealbums short runtime isn’t a hindrance to the album but rather a perfect segway into a stop; the album is nice for a short car ride or any sporadic work that needs to be done with its fun, bouncy sounds and soft vocals, as well when you need to turn the volume down and just let it sit in your ears while you focus on other things. Bladee and ecco2k, while controversial for their strange sounds, come together to make a wonderful album full of memorable and fun tracks.
PROS: – Unique sound – Short high energy tracks – Pleasant album from start to finish – Short runtime saves you from getting sick of similar instruments in production
CONS: – “5 star crest” is a 9 minute song and takes up a third of the album on its own – Production can feel samey
TOP TRACKS – Girls just wanna have fun – Desire is a trap – Yeses (red cross)
