A Conversation with Allie X
By Amal Qazi
I had the great privilege of being able to talk to singer-songwriter Allie X ahead of her Weird World tour about her newest album, Girl with No Face, and what it means to be a musician in the digital age.
Watch the whole interview here and view my photos of her show in D.C. here.

Canadian synthpop artist Allie X released her most recent album, Girl with No Face, back in February, marking her first release since 2020’s Cape God. Girl with No Face sprouted from the idea of the title track that had been in development for over a decade, and which became the artist’s first entirely self-produced album of the same name. The album takes heavy inspiration from the ’70s and ’80s, leaning into a feeling of retrofuturism, the influence of which leaks into the visual concepts of the album, such as in the music videos for “Galina” and “Weird World”. Girl with No Face marks a pivotal moment in Allie X’s career, demonstrating not only to herself but to the world that she can make something as incredible as this record all on her own, a feeling that I can’t wait to hear reflected in her future work.
