Willow Avalon at The Atlantis
Go To This Because We Asked So Nicely – A Concert Preview
By Christian Setzer
Georgia-born singer-songwriter Willow Avalon takes the stage at The Atlantis on Friday, January 31st, with her opening act, Darryl Rahn. This is Avalon’s first tour around the United States and is in honor of her newfound fame from her hit songs “Tequila or Whiskey” and “Homewrecker.” The Atlantis, located on 9th Street in D.C., is a relatively small venue that holds around 450 people at full capacity. Sitting near U Street, the area boasts a bountiful nightlife with music venues and restaurants around every corner. While there are no seated tickets at this venue, there are still plenty of general standing tickets available for Avalon’s concert.
Willow Avalon is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter, who already boasts over 819,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. She grew up in rural Georgia, surrounded by gospel and country music. She taught herself how to write and play music at the age of 12 as a way of escaping reality. Her debut EP, “Country Never Leaves,” accomplished over 30 million streams. The EP has given her an astronomical rise to fame within the country community. This is no surprise, as her unique vocal style is positively fascinating to listen to. Avalon will only continue to grow as an artist now that her debut album, Southern Belle Raisin’ Hell, has officially been released.
Darryl Rahn, the opening act, is a smaller developing artist in the folk realm. He is inspired by artists like Tom Petty, Gregory Alan Isakov, and John Price. He has just released a new album, Dusk, which puts his soothing melodic voice on full display. This tour with Avalon will help put his name on the map and give him a rise in the folk community.
