On September 29th at 7 p.m., Duster, the experimental indie rock band, takes on 9:30 Club alongside openers Dirty Art Club. Duster consists of Ewing Clay Parton and Canaan Dove Amber, both multi-instrumentalists, though Jason Albertini has contributed to past records. Parton and Amber began to record music together on cassettes in the 1990s before releasing their first EP, Transmission, Flux, in 1997. Transmission, Flux is home to hit songs such as “Orbiton” and “Stars Will Fall,” two of their most streamed songs. They made a second EP, Apex, Trance-Like, before releasing Stratosphere, their first full-length album and their most popular to this day.

Stratosphere received praise upon its release, but as it has aged over the past 26 years, it has only grown to be more loved. It has a cult-like following amongst those who enjoy ambient music from space rock, indie rock, and slowcore. Following Stratosphere came the EP 1975 and the album Contemporary Movement in 2000. Then, there was a nearly 20-year hiatus.

In 2019, Capsule Losing Contact was announced, breaking their hiatus. The nearly 3-hour record consisted of every previous Duster song compiled into one album, as well as multiple priorly unreleased songs. Nine months later, they released a self-titled album. This album cover is one of their most iconic – the Duster cat.

Since then, Duster has released four more albums and two singles, Anhedonia II b/w Ecstasy Cowgirl, which they created with Dirty Art Club. Their performance at 9:30 Club will be the third of their tour, and since the tour is untitled, it will be interesting to see if they focus on their new singles and newest album, In Dreams, or if they celebrate their entire discography. Either way, it will not be something you want to miss. If you’re looking for a relaxed, experimental concert, then I’ll see you at 9:30 Club on September 29th!
