Go To This Because We Asked So Nicely – An Event Preview

On October 18th from 7-9 p.m., WGMU (that’s us!) will host their first-ever Pre-Amp event at the Side Pocket of The Hub. Pre-Amp will serve as a precursor to the annual festival that we organize, Amplifest, though on a more intimate level and right on George Mason University campus! Gerf and Mantus will be performing at Pre-Amp.

Gerf’s bio is, “The coolest indie-surf-punk-rock band from the DMV area. We are a trio with very different musical backgrounds and styles, but come together to form what we like to think is a unique take on today’s garage/grunge sound. If we are not rehearsing or playing shows, we are usually recording and cuddling. We strive to constantly better our music and sound and share what we love to do with the world.”

Gerf has accumulated nearly 4,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and has recently performed at the Pearl Street Wearhouse, Skystage, and The Pocket.

Mantus is a band consisting of George Mason students. Their bio is, “We are a heavy metal band that has been around since last spring. The band consists of Ike (vocals), Jamie (guitar), Alex (bass), and Sage (drums). We have played live at Plazapalooza. Normally, we would play heavier music, but for the event, it will be a rather mellow set with two acoustics and vocals.”

It is important to note that only half of the band can make it, though it will be a good time, nonetheless. Additionally, Ike, their vocalist, is the president of the Music Production Club, which is a great showcase of George Mason’s talent!  

Pre-Amp is also in time to celebrate Halloween, so we encourage costumes! Dress like a song or your favorite artist; we want to see it, and so does GMU’s Fashion Society, who are kindly collaborating with us to make it a fun, Halloween style x Live Music event. We also partnered with a Depop ambassador, so be sure to get to Pre-Amp early and pick up a Depop tote bag before they run out.
