Cuco at The Anthem
Go To This Because We Asked So Nicely – A Concert Preview
By Alexandra Henriques
On October 12th, Cuco will bring his 4U Tour to The Anthem, one of the best venues in Washington, D.C. Cuco is the music project of Omar Banos, a 26-year-old Mexican-American, who blends the English and Spanish languages to make beautiful, bedroom-pop and psychedelic-infused music.
Cuco began releasing music in 2015 at the age of 17. He found inspiration through Chicano rap, Spanish rock, and psychedelic sounds such as those of Tame Impala. In 2016, he released the album wannabewithu, which became an immediate hit. wannabewithu is home to two of his most popular tracks – “Lover Is a Day” and “Amor de Siempre.” After the album proved to be successful, Cuco pursued music as a full-time career. In 2017, he released Songs4u and “Lo Que Siento.”
In 2019, after signing with Interscope Records, Cuco released Para Mi, which contains hits such as “Bossa No Sé.” He released his latest album in 2022, Fantasy Gateway, which became his form of expression throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. It tells “the good, the bad, and the ugly,” according to his Spotify bio, as he created a getaway from the real world and slipped into his imagination to tell stories of things he never experienced and hypothesize on potential futures.
While Cuco has yet to release another album since 2022, he has released many singles and collaborations. This past year, he has been featured on six singles, including “silence STArEs me down,” “Feeling Low,” “Closer,” “Better,” “How’s That Working Out,” and “Sirena.”
