Killer Queen at The Lincoln Theatre
Go To This Because We Asked So Nicely – A Concert Preview
By Maryann Weber
Patrick Myers is not Freddie Mercury, nor Farrokh Balsara. He has merely been imitating him since 1993, a stunning 33 years, and gives proof that if you imitate someone great, you can make more than a living at it. He is the highest-grossing Queen tribute performer ever.
Now, it is a question whether you youngsters can get behind only a tribute band that has been playing longer than you have been alive.
Can you appreciate the radical length and operatic voice of “Bohemian Rhapsody?” Do you feel the inevitability of “Another One Bites the Dust?” Can you imagine sex with “Fat Bottomed Girls?” Can you bang on a wall twice, and then clap? Do you recognize “We Will Rock You” from the beat alone?
But here is the thing: if an artist is going after someone like Queen, he had better be nailing it. Do not cover Whitney or Stevie or Michael or Freddie if you cannot nail it. Do we have a clue whether Patrick is nailing it or not?
Yes! He is the highest grossing Queen tribute band, playing for three decades!
I am eager to hear it.
The Lincoln Theater is on U Street, one block west of the Metro U Street Station. Tickets start at $45, and the doors open at 7:00 p.m., with the show staring at 8:00 p.m.
