High Fade at The Atlantis
Go To This Because We Asked So Nicely – A Concert Preview
By Maryann Weber
High Fade formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2018. They are on a grueling North America/Canada tour with five days in five cities and Monday and Tuesday off. The musicians’ “weekend.” Their 3-man mission is “to set the dance floor right.”
Wiki says they are a funk rock band, but I take exception to the “funk” part. They have a straight-ahead beat versus a down-and-dirty one. No shortage of cowbell. It is rock, and not specifically Scottish. It is not, for example, The Proclaimers.
Now Natalie Brooke brings some funk and jazz to her piano. Her band, with the female vocals, is more like a fusion of everything, with a bit of jam band thrown in there as well.
The high energy of both groups is welcomed because The Atlantis is a standing-room venue, unless you call ahead for accommodations.
