Delta Sleep at Black Cat
Go To This Because We Asked So Nicely – A Concert Preview
By Alexandra Henriques
On Friday, November 22nd, Delta Sleep, Teen Suicide, and Carpool Tunnel take on Black Cat, a historic music venue in the U Street/Shaw neighborhood. The Black Cat was founded in 1993 and has since hosted the likes of Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, The Strokes, and more recently, Childish Gambino, Billie Eilish and recent pop-hit Chappell Roan. The 700-person capacity venue remains iconic in the punk and indie rock scene. Additionally, the Black Cat is only a 7-minute walk from the U Street Metro Station (serviced by the Green Line).
Delta Sleep was formed in 2010 in England and currently consists of band members Devin Yüceil, Dave Jackson, Glen Hodgson, and Blake Mostyn. Their music, best described as a mix of math rock, indie rock, and post-hardcore characteristics, is nearly addicting to listen to with their atypical rhythms and chords that push boundaries. Their work is original and always evolving, making each one of their projects a gift. Delta Sleep released their newest album, Blue Garden, last month. Blue Garden is their fifth album, and their USA tour, which began on October 25th in Toronto, celebrates it. Delta Sleep has also released four EPs, various singles and have completed two Audiotree Live sessions with the American music record label that specializes in live music.
Joining them at the Black Cat are the Orlando-based lo-fi indie rock band Teen Suicide and the indie-alternative band Carpool Tunnel. Teen Suicide has found much success since their formation in 2009, with their song “haunt me (x 3)” reaching over 100 million streams on Spotify. Carpool Tunnel came from the San Francisco music scene in 2017 and has since released two albums, two EPs and multiple singles.
