Catie Turner at The Atlantis
Go To This Because We Asked So Nicely – A Concert Preview
By Alexandra Henriques
Catie Turner, the former American Idol contestant turned indie-pop sensation, brings Catie Turner Stuns on Tour to The Atlantis in Washington, D.C. on October 19th. She is joined by indie-folk singer/songwriter Grace Gardner, who can play 10 instruments and weaves all of those elements into her music.
Catie Turner performed on American Idol‘s sixteenth season in 2018, where she placed in the Top 7. She sang a duet with Katy Perry, and while she did not win the season, she released her first EP The Sad Vegan a year after season’s conclusion. The EP was widely praised, with songs such as “Prom Queen” rising to fame due to social media. The success of her EP helped her sign a deal with Atlantic Records. Since then, she has released three more EPs, including Grow Out Of You which was just released on October 10th.
Joining Catie Turner is Grace Gardner, who describes herself as “a producer, music educator, and arranger,” according to her Bandcamp. The Texas-born and now Philly-based artist is an emotional storyteller with stunning yet simplistic vocals. Songs like “Deny Me” are touching, if not downright tear-jerking.
The Atlantis is a 450-person capacity venue that sits in the heart of the U Street neighborhood, surrounded by great eateries for a pre- or post-show snack. The U Street Metro Station is a five minute walk from the venue, and it is accessible via WMATA’s Green Line service.
Overall, the show is accessible and Catie Turner is sure to put on a magnificent concert, so be sure to attend! Both her and Grace Gardner’s discographies are sure to sound even better live.
